...CRICKET...
I can't wait to see the Boy from Bedfordshire with the ball in his hand. Mudhsuden Singh Panesar aka Monty. I first remember rolling the eyes over this fellow in the field somewhereorother dropping an absolute sitter. He misfielded too. I said to myself then and there bet he can bowl.
Well, according to an article by Will Luke run in Cric Info England 2006, his fielding is on the improve. But his fielding is not why he's playing for England. It's all about his bowling. Luke says he's England's most exciting spinner for 30 years.' I certainly can't think of any English spinner in the last 15 or 20 years that has caused such a stir as the Python has. He has become England's go to man with the ball. So why not play him in Queensland? It's all about timing.
He spun England to victory against Pakistan. And he just might do it against Australia with the help of Harmison, Hoggard and Flintoff.
So what precisely has given him his cult status at the age of 24? It is a combination of elements. Undeniably his turban, his charismatic presence, his ability as a spinner and his desire for greatness.
Salute the Panesar!
