The Farcical final...

October 1st 2006 00:34
Yes, I watched the football final like many of you. I watched and couldn't help thinking what a farce. The laws of probability if given their chance to speak would have to agree.

I'm not complaining about the result so much as complaining at the control factors behind the result. It's just too coincidental to hold any truth. Anyone who follows codes of honesty and integrity and believes that they were present on that football field - seriously wake up.

I mean I fell in love with a racehorse named Makybe Diva (i would never deny you are gifted) before she even won her first Melbourne Cup, but nothing but the Horse Gods could have given her three in a row. Lee Freedman you're good but underhandedness is better.

Perhaps I am just a cynic, without a romantic cell in my body.

I watch the footy for the sublime skills of the few. Andrew Mcleod stand up.

I'm out of time so it ends here - apologies.

And what control factors would those be?

money and feat - i hear they talk...

re: makybe diva - who could possibly deny a better suited horseracing fairytale? especially when the next one might not be in my lifetime or yours.

re: footy - tip the margins quarter by quarter and I'll retract my thoughts. Also, write me a better script than a reversal of fortunes. Or Write me a better script for a 2007 final.

In fact, I hope we see them in 2007. We might just get a game really woth watching.

Maybe I'm just too cynical.

if there is any truth in my thoughts - then i really don't see the point of playing the game, it holds no real worth.

Umm, rightio. it was a classic contest and arguably one of the greatest grand finals in history, i think there is more than enough worth there for any lover of sport

this might sound untrue after my thoughts on the final, but i certainly qualify as sportsminded. Football is certainly not my first love, but that doesn't mean i hate the game. I appreciate the skill involved in the game, and as mentioned already watch it for that very reason.

i just don't like the idea of anything being set up, it takes the worth away.

For some reason i just couldn't shake the thought i had. a woman's intuition is not to be taken lightly.

Set up? So your suggesting the umpires had some sort of influence on the result?

it's not the sole domain of the umpires. it's not that difficult to spray a kick, a handball, run over the ball without gathering, give away a timely free .

It happens in racing, it happens in cricket, and it damn sure happens in football.

Ok, I agree with you there to a point, but that doesnt dispute the worth of the result

how cannot it not? i don't mean to be rude(we are just in dialogue), but does it not become a contradictory statement to agree to a point yet find worth in the result?

or have i missed something?

Not really, its part of sport for people to make mistakes. Thats the beauty of the contest and I dont think it detracts from the result, cos both sides made just as many errors as the other

i think we were on different boats.

I don't deny people make mistakes in sport, bad decisions being part of that. Or that it detracts from a true event or game. However, the 'of no worth' i was referring to was in relation to games/events that are set up. There is no merit in an athlete winning if he/she is found to be a cheat. Same rule applies in anything.

Ok, but there was definitely no cheating in the grand final
